Beth Ann Powers is an award winning playwright, comedian, theater artist, educator, and snarky little rascal. While she wears many hats, her work can always be identified by it's innovative / playful nature, love of language, and distinct comedic style which seeks to harness the power of comedy to explore deeper truths.

Beth Ann is a highly trained, cross disciplinary theater artist with over a decade of professional experience, along with both an undergraduate degree in performance creation from the University of Minnesota and a graduate degree in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University As a playwright, Beth Ann's work has been produced regionally by theater companies across the country from Minneapolis to New York City, and have appeared in a variety of festivals, including, most recently, Project Y’s WIT festival in NYC. In 2022 her script The Real Girls received the Mary Marlin Fisher Award for most outstanding play. Her screenplay, Saving Little Hope, was also named an award recipient in the 2022 Alfred P. Sloan Script Competition. In 2015 she become the co-founder and artistic director the formerly Minneapolis based production company, Slap Happy Studios, with the mission to create bold, collaborative, and above all, playful new work that inspires empathy, community, and joy in it's audience. As a result she's had the pleasure of producing countless silly, fun, and ridiculous shows with her team over the past ten years.
In addition to her theater work, Beth Ann is also an avid sketch comedian and can be seen regularly performing around Washington, DC and at comedy festivals across the country as a member of the acclaimed comedy troupe, Rails Comedy, her comedic duo, Binky and the Pain, or as part of DC's premiere all-women/ non-binary sketch team, Chaps, which she helped to co-found. Some of her festival credits include Austin, Philadelphia, New York City, North Carolina, South Carolina, Portland Maine, and the upcoming IO Festival in Chicago. Additionally, she is a prolific solo character performer and has made several appearance on the highly popular, UCB affiliated character show/ youtube channel, Characters Welcome.
By day, Beth Ann works as a theater educator for young artists, serving schools in the Northern Virginia area by providing enrichment classes in acting, improv, playwrighting, and technical theater Afterschool she also creates and directs original children's plays / musicals which are written in collaboration with their student casts.

Training:
Beth Ann holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon University and a BA in Theater Arts, Performance Creation from the University of Minnesota. Additionally, she has trained in television writing at The Comedy Lab with Kim Howard Johnson, and attended sketch and satire classes at IO Theater.
